India’s pace bowler Mohammed Shami, who emerged as the top wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup with 24 wickets, is reportedly among the nominees for the prestigious Arjuna Award. Additionally, the first Indian doubles pair to achieve the top spot in international badminton, Satwik-Chirag, is also in the running for the Arjuna Award.
While the final announcement is yet to be made by the Union Sports Ministry, the Badminton Association of India (BAI) has confirmed the nominations of Satwik-Chirag. The duo became the first Indian doubles pair to reach the pinnacle of BWF world rankings, marking a historic achievement for Indian badminton.
The Arjuna Award list includes other notable athletes who excelled in various sports, including performers at the Hangzhou Asian Games. Some of the athletes in the list are compound archers Aditi Swami and Ojas Deotale, members of the India men’s hockey team Krishan Bahadur Pathak and Sushila Chanu, boxer Mohammad Hussamuddin, chess grandmaster R Vaishali, golfer Diksha Dagar, shooter Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, wrestler Antim Panghal, and table tennis player Ayhika Mukherjee.
The Arjuna Award is a prestigious recognition for outstanding achievements in sports, and the final announcement will be made by the sports ministry.
