Disaster Focus: Two pilots were killed when a two-seater MiG-21 aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed in Rajasthan’s Barmer district

Two pilots were killed after an Indian Air Force MiG-21 two-seater crashed in Rajasthan’s Barmer district on Friday, the Indian Air Force said in a statement. The incident took place around 9 pm on the outskirts of Bhimda village under Batoo police station in the district.”A two-seater Mig-21 trainer aircraft of the IAF took off for a training sortie from Utarlai Air Base in Rajasthan this evening,” it said in a statement.

“There was a plane crash near Barmer around 9:10 pm. Both pilots suffered fatal injuries. The IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and stands firmly with the bereaved families,” the IAF added.Senior officials from the Air Force and the district administration, including the Collector of Barmer and the Superintendent of Police, arrived at the scene of the incident.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Indian Air Force Chief Marshal VR Chaudhary in connection with the fighter plane crash in Barmer, ANI reported. Deeply saddened by the loss of two Air Warriors due to an IAF Mig-21 trainer crash near Barmer, Rajasthan,” Singh said on Twitter.“Their service to the nation will never be forgotten. My thoughts are with the bereaved in this hour of grief,” he said.
