Governance Focus: Content creation industry in India has undergone a massive uplift with ‘Digital India’

Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting Shri Anurag Singh Thakur said the country’s rapidly growing digital infrastructure and the ongoing development in the AVGC industry (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics) have the potential to make India a popular Post-Production the background of the news and entertainment industry. Delivering a keynote address at the ‘Changing Landscape of Media &Entertainment 2022’ Conference organized by Symbiosis Skill & Professional University in Pune, Shri Thakur said “a strong digital foundation for the AVGC sector is emerging across the country and Government has established AVGC Development Working Group to launch AVGC world-class to meet domestic and international needs ”.

The minister said the Media & Entertainment ecosystem is a solar sector that is expected to produce Rs 4 lakh crores per year by 2025 and reach the Rs 7.5 lakh crore industry by 2030. He also said that the Indian government has designated audio aids as one of the 12 Professional Services Sectors and announced key policy measures aimed at promoting sustainable growth.

The Minister said the radio, film and entertainment industry has great potential for employment as we enter the digital age of quality content creation. A number of functional areas have emerged in the field – video editing, color grading, Visual Effects (VFX), audio design, rotoscoping, 3D modeling etc. “Each job line in this field requires a certain set of skills and competencies. It is imperative that industries and professionals come together and make plans that are in line with the needs of the industry,” he said. Shri Thakur said the government was looking at new partnerships with the private sector to ensure that Indian students adhere to future technological trends in the sector.

Shri Thakur said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s zeal in technology provided an opportunity to give wings to the aspirations of the youth and the Premier’s desire to empower the youth was fulfilled by the Skill India Mission aimed at training 40 young people in the relevant market. skills.

Commenting on the ’75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow’ project undertaken during the International Film Festival of India 2021, Shri Thakur said several of those skills had made a significant contribution to the communications and entertainment industry and some had established successful businesses. Commenting on the growing eco-system system in India, Shri Thakur said that, even during the Covid-19 epidemic India has added 50 Unicorn startups, which speak volumes about the spirit of Indian business. The minister said he hoped that more and more young people would emerge from the talent sector produced by leading film schools such as FTII and SRFTI.

India as the World Content Hub

Explaining that India’s content creation industry has greatly improved with ‘Digital India’, Shri Thakur said “with quality content, easy access and an enthusiastic audience, India is ready to tell its success story and become a center for content creation”. Shri Thakur further said that the efforts of the technical people behind the scene should be adequately informed and rewarded, beyond our focus on the leading characters. Oscar-winning and BAFTA Awards-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty became the Distinguished Guests at the National Conference. He said educational institutions should revitalize the ancient Indian tradition of passing on intelligence to students to face the outside world, without developing skills.

Emerging fields of opportunities in Animation, VFX, Gaming and Comics, Opportunities in OTT, TV and Film Production, Augmented Reality / Virtual Reality Immersive Media skills etc. were the main themes of the National Conference. Who’s who of the Media and Entertainment industry, Dr. S B Majumdar, Chancellor of Symbiosis Skills and Professional University, Pro-Chancellor Dr. Swati Majumdar, Vice Chancellor Dr Gauri Shiurkar were among those present.
