Cyclone ‘Tej’ forming over the Arabian Sea is projected to become a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS) by Sunday noon, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). As of the latest update, VSCS Tej is centered over the southwest Arabian Sea, situated about 330 km east-southeast of Socotra (Yemen), 690 km south-southeast of Salalah (Oman), and 720 km southeast of Al Ghaidah (Yemen).
IMD predicts that the storm is likely to intensify even further, becoming an Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm on the morning of October 22. The cyclonic storm is expected to make landfall between Al Ghaidah (Yemen) and Salalah (Oman) in the early hours of October 25.
IMD also suggests that Tej could further intensify into a deep depression over the next 24 hours.
Bay of Bengal Development
Meanwhile, another weather system is developing over the Bay of Bengal, where a low-pressure area has concentrated into a depression. This depression is situated over the west-central Bay of Bengal, approximately 620 km south of Paradip (Odisha), 780 km south of Digha (West Bengal), and 900 km south-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh).
The IMD is closely monitoring this system as it has the potential to develop further into a severe cyclonic storm.
Path of the tej Cyclone
The depression in the Bay of Bengal is expected to continue moving north-northwestwards toward the South Oman and adjoining Yemen coasts. The IMD’s weather updates will keep residents in the affected regions informed about the cyclone’s development and potential impact.
The intensification of Cyclone ‘Tej’ and the formation of a depression in the Bay of Bengal necessitate vigilant monitoring of the situation, as they pose potential threats to coastal areas in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Residents in these regions should stay informed about the cyclone’s path and heed safety advisories issued by authorities.
