Prince Harry is poised to make a poignant return to the United Kingdom next month to commemorate the significant milestone of the Invictus Games, an event close to his heart that he founded a decade ago. According to CNN, the ceremony, scheduled for May 8th at London’s St Paul’s Cathedral, will see Prince Harry delivering a reading to mark the ten-year anniversary of the Invictus Games. This marks his first visit to the UK since February, following the announcement of his father King Charles’ cancer diagnosis.
During his brief visit in February, Prince Harry expressed gratitude for the opportunity to spend time with his family amidst challenging circumstances. However, it remains uncertain if he will have the chance to meet with relatives during his upcoming trip.
While Prince Harry has occasionally returned to the UK since relocating to the United States with his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, in 2020, Meghan’s attendance at the Invictus celebration remains uncertain, especially given their son Prince Archie’s approaching fifth birthday on May 6th.
In related news, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles, amidst undergoing treatment, will soon resume public duties. Managed carefully in consultation with his medical team, his schedule includes welcoming Japan’s Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako for a state visit in June.
The Invictus Games, a testament to Prince Harry’s commitment to supporting wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans, will hold its next edition in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada, in February 2025. Over 500 competitors from 20 nations are expected to participate in adaptive sports, with the introduction of winter sports such as Alpine skiing, snowboarding, and Nordic skiing for the first time, in partnership with First Nations communities, as part of reconciliation efforts.
