Jerusalem – In response to the escalating humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, Israel’s military announced plans to bolster the delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged enclave. The move comes amid mounting international pressure to address the dire situation facing Gaza’s 2.3 million inhabitants.
Following the closure of access to Gaza in the wake of a Hamas attack on October 7, Israel has gradually permitted aid convoys to enter the territory. The decision to intensify aid delivery follows calls from Western and Arab allies to expand assistance efforts.
In a statement, spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari outlined the recent surge in humanitarian aid entering Gaza, with plans for further escalation in the coming days. “Food, water, medical supplies, shelter equipment, and other aid – more of it is going into Gaza than ever before,” Hagari affirmed.
Key to the increased aid efforts is the utilization of Israel’s Ashdod port, along with the establishment of new corridors into Gaza. Additionally, aid from Jordan is entering through the Kerem Shalom border crossing, while plans are underway to construct a temporary maritime pier for ship-to-shore distribution.
The decision to enhance humanitarian aid underscores Israel’s commitment to addressing the needs of Gaza’s population, even amid ongoing tensions with Hamas. “Getting aid to the people of Gaza is a top priority – because our war is against Hamas, not against the people of Gaza,” emphasized Hagari.
The announcement coincides with the decision by U.S.-based charity World Central Kitchen to resume operations in Gaza, a month after seven of its workers were killed in an Israeli airstrike. The move reflects a concerted effort to alleviate the suffering of Gaza’s residents and mitigate the impact of the ongoing crisis.
