Navi Mumbai Building Collapse Rescue Efforts Ongoing, Two Feared Trapped

Navi Mumbai, July 27, 2024 – A three-storey building collapsed in Navi Mumbai‘s Shahbaz village early on Saturday morning, leaving at least two people feared trapped under the rubble. Emergency services, including the police, fire brigade, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), are actively engaged in rescue operations at the site.

Time of Collapse: Approximately 5:00 AM

Location: Shahbaz village, Belapur ward, Navi Mumbai

Building Structure: Ground plus three (G+3) floors, housing 13 flats

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Kailas Shinde stated that two individuals have been successfully rescued and are currently hospitalized in stable condition. However, efforts are continuing to locate and rescue at least two more individuals believed to be trapped.

“The NDRF teams are at the site and are conducting rescue operations. This building is about 10 years old, and an investigation is underway. We will take appropriate action against the building owner,” said Commissioner Shinde.

South Mumbai Just a week ago, an 80-year-old woman was killed, and four others were injured when part of a balcony of a four-storey building on Sleater Road near Grant Road railway station collapsed.

Gujarat Wednesday, an elderly woman and her two granddaughters were killed in Jam Khambhalia, Devbhumi Dwarka district, after a dilapidated three-storey building collapsed amid heavy rainfall. The rescue operation lasted nearly six hours, with teams from the NDRF, police, and fire department managing to save five people.

Commissioner Kailas Shinde emphasized the ongoing investigation into the cause of the collapse and assured that measures would be taken to prevent such incidents in the future. “The safety and well-being of our residents are of utmost priority, and we are committed to ensuring that all necessary actions are taken,” he said.

Authorities will continue to provide updates as the rescue operations progress. The community remains hopeful for the safe recovery of those still trapped, and investigations aim to uncover the reasons behind these structural failures to avert future tragedies.
