Minister of Information and Broadcasting Union Shri Anurag Thakur today visited the National Museum of Indian Cinema (NMIC) located at the Films Division Complex on Pedder Road, Mumbai.
The two-story museum – the 19th-century Gulshan Mahal and the custom-built New Museum Building, attracted the Minister’s attention. After touring the Museum, the Minister noted that “The National Indian Cinema Museum should be visited by those who love films, especially Indian films; your visit to Mumbai will be incomplete if you do not visit NMIC while you are in Mumbai. ”
Shri Thakur encouraged film lovers and film lovers across the country to visit NMIC to learn about Indian cinema history and its origins. “Spend some time here at NMIC and the Museum will take you back to 100 years, when cinema was made without modern technology or equipment,” he said. “Today we are talking about Animation, Visual Effects, Graphics and Gaming, technology, but here we will see how films are made in those days without these and what progress has been made to date,” he added. The Minister also commented on the pain experienced by filmmakers and experts at the time by carrying such large cameras in the wrong places to film.
He said technology had made life easier for people and made their own films. While exhibitions at the Gulshan Mahal museum, spread over eight different halls of various sizes, tracing the history of Indian Cinema from the era of peace to new waves, the new Museum has many interactive exhibition halls.
Filmmaking, antique materials, posters, copies of important films, advertising leaflets, audio tracks, trailers, publicity, old cinema magazines, statistics including filmmaking and distribution etc. is presented in a systematic way that reflects the history of Indian cinema in chronological order. order. Commenting on the role of cinema, the I&B Minister said, “Indian cinema is a soft force in our country that rules the hearts of millions of people around the world.” He also noted that through entertainment, Indian cinema has succeeded in creating India’s identity in the world. He said, the highest number of films in the world are made in India.
As usual, the Minister also planted a seedling on the premises of NMIC and held a review meeting with officials from Films Division, NMIC, Central Board of Film Certification and NFDC. In May, the NMIC complex, which includes modern halls, will host the 17th Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Shorts and Animation Films (MIFF).
