The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has named interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi and MP (MP) Rahul Gandhi in a National Herald case, the party said on June 1. The two leaders were summoned by the June 8 criminal investigation unit into a money laundering case that the party said was closed in 2015.”This is a strange case of money laundering where there is no money. Singhvi said while Sonia Gandhi would appear for questioning, the group would write to the investigation center to find Rahul Gandhi a place to stay. “It is a political, social, economic and legal war,” he said. All the leaders of the opposition parties, including Mamata Banerjee and Farooq Abdullah, are under attack by major institutions,” Singhvi said. The ED asked former Union Minister Pawan Bansal and Congressman Mallikarjun Kharge in April about the case. The case relates to allegations of fraud, conspiracy and breach of trust in the seizure of Associated Journals Limited (AJL), which was in charge of Congress, National Herald, by Young Indian Pvt Ltd.
“It started with the National Herald newspaper in 1942, when the British tried to suppress it, today the Modi government is doing the same and the ED is used for this. The ED has given notice to our president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi,” Congress said. Leader Randeep Surjewala was quoted as saying.
