Governance Focus: Textile industry has huge potential to generate jobs in coming years: Shri Piyush Goyal

At the launch of SIMA Texfair 2022, the thirteenth edition of its series, the international textile exhibition, backups, accessories and services hosted by the Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex, Coimbatore on June 25, 2022, Shri Goyal insisted. that the Institute develops both the cotton and man-made cotton sector to gain a larger share of the global market thereby increasing job creation as well as investment. The textile industry has great potential to create jobs in the coming years, said the Minister of Fabrics, Trade and Industry and Consumer Affairs, Food and Distribution, Shri Piyush Goyal at an event in Coimbatore today.

“In all sectors, we want to be a global industry. We want to seize global markets, ”he said, adding that under the auspices of the Prime Minister, the Institute was working with various countries to finalize a free trade agreement that would make the textile industry less accessible to global markets. Thanks to the PM’s good relations with world leaders, India is gaining international recognition today. In his opening remarks, Shri Piyush Goyal highlighted the creative and commercial skills of Tamil Nadu especially the twin cities namely, Coimbatore and Tirupur. He pointed out that Tamil Nadu would be the largest source of textiles, pumps, wet mills, manufacturing products etc., in the world and boost the economic growth of the Nation.

Various policy plans were highlighted

• Shri Goyal highlighted the various policy initiatives undertaken by the Government and the hard work of the industry to benefit the export of $ 440 billion. He pointed out that the country will reach 30 trillion in the economy from the 3 trillion economy level soon and the government has been addressing all structural problems including tax barriers, tax issues, land competition, etc.

• Advise all stakeholders in the value chain to strive hard, to unite to become the largest productive country in the world. He called on all small business owners and women to come forward and invest and contribute to the growth of the Nation.

• Highlighting from Farm to Fabric, Fabric to Finished Products, Finished Products to Fashion products and finally with Foreign Products, India has a large share in the whole value chain. He said he liked the skills of the Coimbatore people in business. The city has many MSMEs and large textile factories, Kovai Cora cotton Saree marked GI and world famous.

• He said the city is growing rapidly as a major provider of security. “We have decided to support SITRA to produce more security-related products that will assist our judges at the border. Uniforms will be produced in India instead of imported. Some clinical trials are required for some products. I have agreed to support this under the National Technical Textile Mission. They will soon make a proposal, ”he said.

• Shri Goyal revealed that during a visit to SITRA, he saw a nappy factory. He said it was a priority for the Modi government to provide affordable nappies to women. He said plans were afoot to provide affordable hygiene diapers to Tamil Nadu women under PM Jan AushadhiYojana.

• He said under the Samaritan program 2 lakh beneficiaries were trained in the province, of whom 1.7 lakh were provided with inclusion opportunities.

Leading role in production

Shri Goyal also emphasized India’s ability to be the second largest manufacturer of PPE kits not only to protect the Nation’s people, its leading workers, but also to assist several countries with exports. He said India could build high quality PPE kits at an affordable price. He appreciated the role played by the South India Textile Research Association in the various R&D activities and key role played in the production, testing and certification of PPE kits. He confirmed the support needed to strengthen SITRA’s R&D operations.

Shri Piyush Goyal was very pleased with SIMA’s efforts to position Texfairevent with world-class standards and provide opportunities for a few hundred MSME manufacturers to promote foreign exchange and enhance the competitiveness of the Indian textile industry. He advised textile machinery and spare manufacturers to achieve 100% independence by producing all machinery from milling to traditional. He also commended the efforts taken by CITI, SIMA and the council to promote exports to guide industry and government in resolving various problems and improving global competitiveness.

In his address, Dr.L. Murugan, the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, outlined the many policy initiatives undertaken by the NDA Government led by the Honorable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. He said at a time when the world was deteriorating as a result of the negative effects of the COVID epidemic, different policy measures taken by the Union Government would not only enable the country to fight a war with Corana, but also achieve an export record. 440 billion USD.

 He requested to allocate additional funds to develop the industry in Tamil Nadu. He highlighted the various policy initiatives undertaken by the Honorable Minister, Shri M.K.Stalin on the growth of the textile industry and maintaining Tamil Nadu as the number one Province in the country. Shri Gandhi also thanked the Union Government for allocating one PM MITRA park to Tamil Nadu. In his address, Shri R. Sakkarapani, Minister of Food & Human Resources highlighted Tamil Nadu’s contribution to GDP, industrial production, exports especially through MSME collections in Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode and -Dindigul. He called on the Union Minister of Fabric to address the problem of cotton, providing the necessary support for the development of cotton across the country.

Shri T.Rajkumar, Chairman, Confederation of Indian Textile Industry, described the ongoing efforts by Shri Goyal to make the Indian textile and textile industry a net worth of $ 44.2 billion during the year 2021-22 despite unprecedented challenges, recorded growth is the history of the textile industry. He pointed out that under Shri Goyal’s leadership, the industry would be in a position to grow rapidly. He announced the formation of the Textile Advisory Group under the chairmanship of Shri Suresh Kotak, a senior expert and cotton veteran, who has set up two Sub-Committees to increase cotton production and improve seed technology in the country.
