The National Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF), the Department of Earth Sciences, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Navy, the Department of Defense ‘Cooperatively Modeled Applications for Meteorology and Oceanology’. The MoU was signed by Drs. Ashis K. Mitra, Head of NCMRWF and Commodore G Rambabu, Head of the Indian Navy’s Directorate of Naval Oceanology and Meteorology (DNOM), Joint Headquarters, Department of Defense (Navy) during the event held at NCMRWF, Noida.
The purpose of this partnership will be to share expertise with the aim of keeping both organizations up to date with rapid developments in the field of climate / marine modeling, integrated modeling, data matching, collaborative prediction and satellite data usage. Additionally, this will facilitate effective communication taken from the expertise of the two organizations. The MoU will benefit the NCMRWF and the Indian Navy in promoting meaningful collaboration and professional trade in the future.
The NCMRWF with highly skilled scientists and state of the art infrastructure will provide support for the two main Indian Navy centers located in Kochi, namely, the Naval Operations Data Processing and Analysis Center (NODPAC) and the Indian Naval Meteorological Analysis Center (INMAC) in development. advanced weather forecasting systems that include compatible, more reliable and accurate models over the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and international regions.
