Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had a phone call today with His Excellency Nguyen PhuTrong, Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The two leaders commended each other for celebrating the 50th anniversary of the founding of the ethnic relations between India and Vietnam celebrated this year.
They expressed satisfaction with the rapid pace of broader cooperation under the India-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership which was established during the Prime Minister’s visit to Vietnam in 2016. The Prime Minister reiterated the importance of Vietnam as an important pillar of India’s Act East Policy and Indo. Pacific Vision, and sought to improve the scope of bilateral relations, without working for rapid progress on existing programs.
Highlighted the links between history and civilization
The Prime Minister also called for greater access to the Indian commodity market and agricultural products in Vietnam. The Prime Minister highlighted the links between history and civilization between the two countries and expressed his delight at India’s participation in the restoration of Cham monuments in Vietnam. the leaders agreed to improve security relations between the two countries. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of similar interest, including the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and the situation in the South China Sea.
