Canada has expelled an Indian diplomat, identified as Pavan Kumar Rai, head of India’s intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) in Canada, in connection with the killing of pro-Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June. This expulsion has led to fresh tensions between the two countries.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau pointed to “credible allegations of potential link” between Indian agents and Nijjar’s killing, sparking the diplomatic row. However, India rejected these claims, calling them “absurd” and “motivated.”
In a statement, the Indian government expressed concerns about Canada providing shelter to Khalistani terrorists and extremists, who pose a threat to India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. India has also raised concerns about Canada’s leniency toward various illegal activities, including murders and human trafficking.
The diplomatic spat underscores the complex relationship between the two countries, with India urging Canada to address the activities of extremist elements promoting secessionism and violence against Indian diplomats and communities in Canada.
This expulsion and the exchange of accusations highlight the need for diplomatic dialogue and cooperation between the two nations to address issues of mutual concern and maintain bilateral relations.
