Kareena Kapoor Advocates for Age Neutrality in Bollywood, Applauds Senior Female Colleagues

December 31, 2023 In a candid interview with Forbes India, Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor emphasized the talent and impact of senior female actors in the Indian film industry while urging the media to avoid age-shaming. Kapoor praised veteran actors Rani Mukerji and Tabu, highlighting their transformative performances and cinematic prowess.

“They are the most talented actors we’ve had in the Indian film industry. Rani is absolutely cinematic in every which way. Whatever role she plays, she just transforms on the screen. You cannot take your eyes off her. Tabu, for that matter, is one of the finest actors again the Indian industry has ever seen. For them, no one’s thinking of age. They’re entertaining the audience. We’re here to entertain. How does age matter?” said Kareena Kapoor.

Addressing the age-related scrutiny faced by female actors, Kareena asserted, “All these actors are doing better than even, sorry, but even the younger lot. We’re all raring to go. Age is just a number now and it shouldn’t even be discussed. You’re all not asking the old crop of actors how old they are, so how are we being asked.”

The actor challenged the traditional narrative that credits male stars for box office successes, pointing to her 2019 blockbuster, Good Newwz, where she played the female lead opposite Akshay Kumar. She argued that the film’s success was a testament to the strength of the female protagonist.

Kareena Kapoor is set to feature in multiple upcoming projects, including Hansal Mehta’s The Buckingham Murders, a crime thriller on Netflix, The Crew, a heist comedy with Tabu, Kriti Sanon, Diljit Dosanjh, and Kapil Sharma, and Rohit Shetty’s action ensemble Singham Again, co-starring Ajay Devgn, Tiger Shroff, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Akshay Kumar.
