Actor Kangana Ranaut will appear in the local magistrate’s court on July 4 in connection with a defamation suit filed by Bollywood singer Javed Akhtar. As the case is being heard in the Andheri Magistrate’s Court on Monday, his lawyer has asked for his release from the character’s personal appearance of the day. The court then ordered Ranaut’s legal team to file a Pursis (written statement / information provided to the court regarding any pending case), stating that the defendant would remain in court the next day (July 4).
The court issued a one-day permit after Pursis’ filing by Ranaut’s lawyer. The court also withheld the hearing of the application for Ranaut’s warrant until the next hearing. Akhtar, 76, filed a complaint in court in November 2020, alleging that Ranaut made derogatory statements in a television interview, which allegedly tarnished his image in the present ‘coterie’ in Bollywood, following the alleged suicide of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June last year.
