Kajol’s eagerly awaited debut OTT series The Trial – Pyaar Kanoon Dhokha premiered on 14th July. The courtroom drama is an official remake of the American show The Good Wife. Shortly after The Trial episodes dropped, many took to Twitter to review the Disney+ Hotstar series. Some liked Kajol’s performance while others questioned the narration. Trial’s first reaction
In The Trial, Kajol is seen as a housewife who returns to work as a lawyer after her husband’s scandal lands her in jail. While reviewing the show, a Twitter user said, “Court starring Kajol is literally a cheap copy of The Good Wife. The only difference is that in The Good Wife, Julianna Margulies, the lead role, performed really well, while Kajol just speaks the lines.
Another person called The Trial a ‘disaster’. He tweeted: “She wins court cases and closes investigations faster than Maggi is led by an intern who resumes law practice after 13 long years and yet somehow wins all her cases, something even a professional lawyer would be hard pressed to find in this disaster. from the series.” One Twitter user took issue with the show’s storyline, tweeting: “The court is set up with one goal – to vilify men. Please stop with the woke feminism.”
Moreover, Kajol’s first ever on-screen kiss in her three-decade-long career shocked some Twitter users. However, some fans also praised her chemistry with co-star Alya Khan. One wrote, “I didn’t expect this from her (Kajol). The kissing scene is not the best to be honest.” The tweet also read, “Kajol and Alyy together (heart emojis).” Another person praising Kajol tweeted, “Oh the prison visit scene! This is different now!!”
Directed by Suparn Verma, the Disney+ series Hotstar is an Indian adaptation of The Good Housewife starring Julianna Margulies. The show began airing in 2009 and has run for seven seasons. It ended in 2016. The Trial also features Jisshu Sengupta, Sheeba Chaddha and Kubbra Sait among others.
Kajol on her OTT debut
Kajol was last seen in Netflix’s Lust Stories 2. Kajol, who is known for her roles in romantic films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, said she chose The Trial because of the complexity and layers of her character, Noyonika Sengupta.
Kajol recently spoke about her OTT debut with The Trial. Speaking at a teaser for the show in June, she said: “It’s a pretty simple choice for me. I have always said that when I work, I will have fun, I will work with good people and the script will always be my hero, always… Be it an OTT platform or a film, for me a role is a role, both formats require the same amount of work . Maybe it took more time to make an eight-part series for OTT, but it’s the same.”
