Fact check social media will not censor journalism or influence media reports

 India’s proposed government department to fact-check social media will not censor journalism or influence media reports, a federal minister said on Friday.

The newly amended IT regulations require Meta Platforms Inc to make “reasonable efforts” not to “publish, share or send” “false, false or misleading” information about the government to online platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, India’s minister of state for IT, said in an online interview that it was “untrue” that a government appointed body that supports press freedom aims to “censor journalism”.
