PM Narendra Modi’s vision to increase career opportunities for Indian youth under Skill India Mission

As part of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision to increase career opportunities for Indian youth under Skill India Mission, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) will organize 12,197 posts across 25 States and Union Territories. Several local businesses have been invited to take part in the mela to provide local youth with the opportunity to shape their careers through apprenticeships. The event will witness the participation of various companies from various industries.

Participating companies will have the opportunity to meet potential apprentices on a single platform and select candidates on the spot, giving them the opportunity to be part of their organization. Individuals can register for the mela at https://www.apprenticeshipindia.gov.in/ and find the nearest mela location. Candidates who have passed class 5 to 12 and have skill training certificate or ITI diploma holders or graduates can apply during this apprenticeship mela.

Candidates must carry three copies of their CV, three copies of all marks and certificates, photo ID (Aadhaar Card/Driving License etc.) and three passport size photographs to the respective posts. Those who have already enrolled have been asked to arrive at the venue with all relevant documents. Through this fair, candidates will also acquire certifications recognized by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), improving their employability after training.

Expressing his views at the Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela, Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said, “India has often been compared to other developed economies in terms of apprenticeship opportunities for today’s youth. To bridge this gap, we do our best to make apprenticeship opportunities available to interns and students. During the Apprenticeship Fair last month, we had a great response from potential young people who are eager to work hard, contribute to our economy and help shape the future of our country.

Main purpose of this program

The main purpose of this program is to encourage companies to hire more apprentices, while helping employers discover the right talent and develop their potential through training and practical experience. In addition to building credible pathways from apprenticeships to higher education, it is also essential to integrate apprenticeships into the education ecosystem. With our continuous efforts, we aim to increase apprenticeship opportunities in India to 10 million by the end of 2022 and to 60 million by 2026.

Apprenticeship melas are held monthly in the country, with selected individuals receiving a monthly stipend in line with the government’s criteria for acquiring new skills. Apprenticeships are considered to be the most sustainable model of skill development and are receiving a lot of support under the Skill India Mission. The government aims to train 1 million youth annually through apprenticeships and to fulfill this mission, PMNAM is being used as a platform to increase participation of facilities and students. It also makes the youth aware of the various opportunities that exist across participating companies.
