Border Security Force (BSF) troops and Pak Rangers exchanged fire in Anupgarh sector along the India-Pakistan International Border in Rajasthan late on Friday, officials said. No casualties are reported on the Indian side, they said. The BSF has called for a meeting with its cross-border counterparts to be held along Anupgarh sector in Sriganganagar district of the state on Saturday, officials said.
It is believed that some movement of locals along the Indian side first triggered firing from the Pakistani side, after which the BSF troops retaliated, they said. It is very rare for soldiers to exchange fire along the Rajasthan IB front, which also runs along Gujarat, Punjab and Jammu. More details and inputs on the incident are awaited, a senior Border Force officer said.
