National Focus: Notification published in Gazette of India Extraordinary by following updates

In a notice published in the Indian Extraordinary Gazette today (July 5, 2022), the Electoral Commission has designated the following dates for the election of the Deputy President: –

July 19, 2022 (Tuesday), as the last date of appointment; July 20, 2022, (Wednesday), as the date for consideration of nominations; July 22, 2022, (Friday), as the last day for the withdrawal of candidates; and August 6, 2022, (Saturday), as the voting date, if necessary.

The Commission uses various Notices issued on July 1, 2022, appointing Shri Utpal Kumar Singh, Secretary-General, Lok Sabha as the Returning Officer for the Vice-Presidential Election and Shri P.C. Tripathy, Joint Secretary and Shri Raju Srivastava, Director, Lok Sabha Secretariat, as Assistant Return Officers.

As required under Act 3 of the Presidential and Deputy Presidential Elections Act, 1974, the Accounting Officer by public notice announced today, 5 July, 2022, that-

A. Nomination papers may be submitted by the candidate or one of his or her nominees or supporters to the Office Transformer in his or her office at Room 18, on the ground floor, in Parliament, New Delhi, or if he or she is unavoidably absent, from the assistant. Referral Officer Shri P.C. Tripathy, Joint Secretary or Shri Raju Srivastava, Director, Lok Sabha Secretariat in the said office between 11 A.M. and 3 P.M. on any day (other than a public holiday) no later than 19 July, 2022;

II. each nomination form shall be accompanied by a certified copy of the entry relating to the candidate in the Parliamentary constituency roll in which the candidate is registered as a voter;

III. every candidate shall enter or submit only a sum of fifteen thousand. This amount can be deposited as cash in the Refund at the time of submission of the nomination paper or earlier in the Central Bank of India or the Treasury and finally a receipt showing that the specified deposit amount is required to include the nomination paper;

IV. nomination forms can be obtained from the aforementioned office at the time specified;

V. Nomination papers, other than those rejected under subsection (4) of section 5B of the Act, shall be considered in Room No. 62, First Floor, House of Representatives, New Delhi on Wednesday, 20 July, 2022 at 11 A.M .;

VI. Notice of withdrawal of candidates may be served by the candidate, or any of his or her nominees or his or her nominees in writing, by the Transformer in the space referred to in paragraph (I) above. clock in the afternoon of July 22, 2022;

VII. In the event of an election, voting will take place on Saturday, August 6, 2022 between 10 a.m. and 5 P.M. at a polling station set out under the rules.

Arrangements have been made for the simultaneous publication of these Notices and the Public Notice issued by the State Translator in the Official Gazette of all countries / territories of the Union.
