US President Joe Biden Expresses Outrage Over Gaza Hospital Blast, Calls for Investigation

In a deeply concerning and tragic incident, an explosion at the Al Ahli Arab hospital in Gaza City has left approximately 500 Palestinians dead, and it has raised significant questions about the events leading up to the explosion. US President Joe Biden expressed his outrage and sadness over the incident and directed his national security team to investigate and gather information to gain a clearer understanding of what happened.
The explosion at the Gaza City hospital resulted in by far the highest death toll in any single incident in Gaza during the latest wave of violence in the region. Both Israeli and Palestinian officials have been quick to blame each other for the catastrophic blast. Gaza officials contend that it was an Israeli airstrike that caused the deaths, while Israel insists that a failed Palestinian rocket attack triggered the explosion.
Israeli officials suggested that an analysis of their operational system showed “an enemy rocket barrage” passing the hospital at the time of the strike, and they attributed the responsibility to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad militant group. However, Islamic Jihad denied any involvement, stating that it had no activity in or around Gaza City during that time.
The incident occurred just before President Biden’s planned visit to Israel to show support for the country in its ongoing conflict with Hamas. The purpose of the visit was to understand Israel’s strategy to minimize civilian casualties and to express solidarity with the nation.
In a statement, President Biden expressed his deep sadness and outrage over the hospital explosion and its tragic loss of life. He mentioned that he had already spoken with King Abdullah II of Jordan and Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel, and he directed his national security team to investigate the incident further.
President Biden emphasized that the United States stands firmly for the protection of civilian lives during conflicts and expressed condolences for the patients, medical staff, and other innocent individuals who lost their lives or were injured in the tragedy.
Initial reports suggested that as many as 500 people may have been killed in the hospital strike, while Israeli military spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari cast doubt on the Palestinian death count. He indicated that there was no direct hit on the facility and mentioned that military drone footage showed “a kind of hit in the parking lot.” Rear Admiral Hagari also noted that the Israeli air force operation in the area around the time of the hospital blast involved different ammunition that did not match the footage of the incident.
As the investigation unfolds, questions surrounding the tragic explosion continue to mount, highlighting the urgency of determining the facts and circumstances surrounding this devastating event. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need to protect civilian lives during times of conflict and the complex challenges faced in the midst of a protracted conflict in the region.
