Governance Focus: NITI Aayog  launched E-AMRIT (Accelerated e-Mobility Revolution for India’s Transportation) mobile app to raise awareness about electric mobility

During COP 26 President Rt Hon’ble Alok Sharma’s visit to India on 21-22 On July 22, 2022, NITI Aayog today launched two major initiatives — the E-AMRIT (Accelerated e-Mobility Revolution for India’s Transportation) mobile app to raise awareness about electric mobility and a market report on the reuse and recycling of advanced chemical cells in India. They were inaugurated by COP 26 President Rt Hon’ble Alok Sharma, Hon’ble NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Mr. Suman Bery and NITI Aayog CEO Mr. ParameswaranIyer.

India is among the 42 leaders who want to support and sign the UK’s Glasgow Breakthroughs, launched at the COP26 climate summit. India is also a co-organizer of the Glasgow Breakthrough in Road Transport along with the UK and the US. The road transport breakthrough aims to make ZEVs – including two- and three-wheelers, cars, vans and heavy goods vehicles – the new normal by making them affordable, accessible and sustainable in all regions by 2030.

To strengthen this low-carbon infrastructure, NITI Aayog is working with the UK government in the areas of e-vehicles, charging infrastructure and battery storage. During the presentation, the President of COP26 highlighted: “India is the fifth largest and fastest growing vehicle market in the world, providing huge potential for the uptake of electric vehicles. The transition to zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) is underway and accelerating, creating 100,000 new e-mobility jobs, lowering technology costs, ensuring cleaner air we breathe and reducing our dependence on imported fuels.

Launching the joint UK-NITI Aayog initiatives on electric mobility, Mr Alok Sharma said: “These initiatives demonstrate the continued value of UK-India collaboration not just on electric vehicle infrastructure, but in taking action to tackle climate change as a whole. we look forward to continuing our partnership in the future.”Addressing the delegation, the Honorable Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog noted that “Electrification of the transport system is a key driver of India’s transformational mobility paradigm. Accelerating this green transition will require a multifold increase in public and private capital flows to build new green infrastructure in India.

While launching the EV initiatives, the CEO of NITI Aayog emphasized that the rapid development of the EV ecosystem, increased industry participation, international cooperation and supportive government policies will boost EV adoption in India to grow exponentially over the next decade. The e-AMRIT app offers users key information such as engagement tools that enable them to evaluate the benefits of electric vehicles, identify savings and get all the latest developments in the Indian electric vehicle market and industry at their fingertips. The mobile app, which will be available today on Google Play store in the Android version, is a follow-up to e-AMRIT. The report on “Advanced Cell Battery Reuse and Recycling Market in India”, supported by the UK’s Green Growth Fund, aims to promote battery recycling of current and emerging battery technologies and the battery supply chain, as interest in electric vehicles grows in India. The report highlights the key role of energy storage in meeting India’s COP26 targets.
