Based on the intelligence developed in partnership with Gujarat ATS officials, the Director of Financial Intelligence (DRI) is currently investigating the consignment, introduced by a Uttarakhand-based company at Kandla Port. The cargo arrives at Kandla port from Banden Abbas port, Iran. The consignment, loaded with 17 boxes (10,318 bags), weighs 394 MT and is termed “gypsum powder”.
To date, 205.6 kg of heroin, valued at Rs. 1439 crores in the illegal market, found. Detailed cargo testing is still underway at the port.
During the investigation, the importer was not found at the registered address in Uttarakhand. Accordingly, a nationwide search was launched for the seller to be arrested. DRI has conducted searches at various locations throughout India to find the importer. The importer changed places and hid to avoid being identified. However, persistent and vigorous efforts have yielded results and imports were found in a small village in Punjab. An importer tried to escape, but was apprehended by DRI police.
On the basis of the investigation conducted so far, DRI has arrested the importer mentioned under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985 and appeared before the Honorary Magistrate’s Court for Special Services, Amritsar on 24.04.2022. The court granted the postponement of the goods so that DRI officials could identify the importer outside the Bhuj Court.Further investigations into the case are ongoing.
