Under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) and as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav week by the Department of Rural Development (DoRD), more than 174 ‘women centric’ mobilisation camps were organised across the nation on the 7th of March 2022. The event was put up with the help of various State Rural Livelihood Missions (SRLMs), State Skills Missions (SSM) and Project Implementation Agencies (PIAs).
Over 4281 women were mobilised through such camps that was organised across the country for women to enroll in courses such as Assistant Beauty Therapists, Self Employed Tailoring and Sample Tailoring. Mobilisation camps are crucial part of the programme as they provide a multitude of opportunities to reach out to potential candidates and inform them about the scheme and its provisions.
The Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana scheme directs that at least one-third of the total candidates that are being trained under the scheme should be women. Although the scheme targets rural poor youth in the age group of 15-35 years, the upper age limit for women candidates has been fixed at 45 years.
Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) was launched on the 25th of September 2014, and is a nationwide placement-linked skill training program that is funded by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD).
The objective of DDU-GKY is to build placement linked skills of the poor rural youth and support them in wage employment across various sectors of the economy. The programme has an outcome based design to guarantee the placements of at least 70 percent of the trained candidates.
The DDU-GKY programme is being implemented across 27 states and 3 UTs for rural poor youth with a high emphasis on placements. More than 871 Project Implementation Agencies (PIAs) are training rural poor youth for 611 job roles through more than 2381 training centres. Collectively, over 11.44 lakh youths have been trained and 7.15 lakh youth have been placed till the 31st of January 2022.
