DD Free Dish reached to 43 million subscribers and announced a new channel.

With a reach of more than 43 million households, Doordarshan Free Dish has become the largest DTH platform in the television distribution sector. With enhanced auction processes leading to addition of greater quality & quantity of channels in various genres, between 2017 and 2022 alone, the Free DTH service of Doordarshan achieved a remarkable rise of about 100 percent from 22 Million in 2017 to 43 Million in 2022.

“Free Television continued to grow its base to reach an estimated 43 million subscribers on the back of less expensive television sets, economic issues, and the addition of new channels to the platform,” according to the recently released FICCI-EY Report 2022, which corroborates why and how DD FreeDish continues its strong growth trajectory. FreeDish distributors are quoted in the paper as saying that sales of DD FreeDish set-top boxes had increased year over year.

DD FreeDish’s growth over the previous 5 years shines out when compared to 22 million members in 13 years between 2004 and 2017. Between 2017 and 2022, FreeDish attracted another 21 million customers, bringing the total number of subscribers to 43 million.

In the most recent e-Auction for allotment of MPEG-2 slots for DD FreeDish for 2022-23, 63 channels were successfully given slots in diverse genres, exemplifying the success story of DD FreeDish. The number of channels on DD FreeDish has expanded in many categories this year, in tandem with the surge in DD FreeDish subscriptions. The number of channels in the News and Current Affairs category has grown from 11 to 14, while the number of channels in the Hindi Music, Hindi Sports, Hindi Teleshopping, Bhojpuri Movies, and Bhojpuri General Entertainment categories has climbed from 13 to 16.

There are a total of 167 TV channels and 48 radio stations available on DD FreeDish, including 91 Doordarshan channels (including 51 cobranded educational programmes) and 76 private TV channels. DD FreeDish’s private TV channel bouquet will include 8 Hindi general entertainment channels, 15 Hindi movie channels, 6 music channels, 22 news channels, 9 Bhojpuri channels, 4 devotional channels, and 2 international channels as of April 1, 2022.

The DD FreeDish bouquet is now more diversified and entertaining than ever thanks to the new channel lineup. For the first time on DD FreeDish, Chef Sanjeev Kapoor’s ‘Food Food’ has been added as a dedicated food channel. There’s excellent news for sports fans: in addition to DD Sports, FreeDish will now offer a new sports channel called ‘MyCam.’.
