Cyberabad Police Bust Online Cricket Betting Racket; Four Bookies Arrested

In a significant operation, the Cyberabad police have dismantled an online cricket betting racket, leading to the arrest of four individuals involved in the illicit activity. The crackdown resulted in the seizure of a substantial sum of money and the freezing of multiple bank accounts linked to the operation.

Following actionable intelligence, the special operations team (SOT) of Madhapur and Miyapur police collaborated to apprehend the bookies from an apartment located in Mathrusri Nagar, within the jurisdiction of the Miyapur police station.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Aaluru Trinadh, Manam Rajesh, Bolle Swamy, and Marpenna Ganapathi Rao. These individuals were allegedly orchestrating online cricket betting operations through the Cricket Live Guru and Lucky Online applications, focusing on matches from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

Further investigation by the police revealed the involvement of a London-based individual named Shakamuri Venkateshwar Rao, also known as Chinnu, a native of Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh. It is alleged that Rao was the mastermind behind the online cricket betting scheme, with the four arrested individuals acting as bookies on his behalf.

The police action resulted in the confiscation of ₹40 lakh in cash from the possession of the accused persons, along with the freezing of five bank accounts holding ₹3.57 lakh. The operation underscores the law enforcement’s commitment to combating illegal gambling activities and maintaining the integrity of sporting events.

The Cyberabad police have assured continued vigilance and proactive measures to curb such unlawful practices, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the public in upholding the law and ensuring a safe and fair environment for all.
