No US balloon is flying over Chinese airspace, the White House said on Monday, rejecting Beijing’s claim.
John Kirby, the National Security Council’s strategic communications coordinator at the White House, told reporters at a news conference “We don’t fly observation balloons over China, I’m not aware of any other vessel that we fly over into Chinese airspace”.
Earlier in the day, Beijing claimed that the United States flew more than 10 high-altitude balloons into its airspace last year without its permission.
“There are no US government balloons over the People’s Republic of China none, zero, period,” Assistant Secretary of State Wendy Sherman told reporters at a separate news conference.
