Amitabh Bachchan made an emotional return as the host of the popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) for its 16th season, which premiered on Monday night on Sony Entertainment Television. Despite bidding an emotional farewell to the show last year, the overwhelming demand from fans brought the legendary actor back to the iconic stage.
As per tradition, Amitabh Bachchan began the episode by making his entrance on the KBC set, greeted by a thunderous round of applause from the studio audience. The actor, visibly moved, addressed the camera in Hindi, expressing his deep gratitude. “Today marks the start of a new season. But I’m a little short of words today. And that’s because no word has the capacity to convey the gratitude for your love,” he began. He went on to thank the viewers for their prayers and support, which he credited with bringing the show back to life.
First Contestant and New Features
The first episode featured Utkarsh Baxi as the contestant who won the “fastest fingers first” round, earning his spot on the hot seat. He played confidently until the ₹25,00,000 question, but unfortunately, he couldn’t answer it correctly and left with a prize of ₹3,20,000.
One of the new additions to this season is the Dugnaastra, a special feature that allows contestants to double their winnings after correctly answering a “super sawaal” (super question). However, the catch is that contestants have no options to choose from, making it a high-stakes gamble.
Amitabh Bachchan has been the face of Kaun Banega Crorepati since its inception in 2000, except for the third season in 2007, which was hosted by Shah Rukh Khan. His return for the 16th season was eagerly awaited by fans, who were delighted to see the beloved host back on screen.
Apart from KBC, Amitabh Bachchan will soon be seen in the upcoming films Section 84 and Vettaiyan.
