Jaipur: At least 20 people have tragically lost their lives across various parts of Rajasthan as torrential rains continue to lash the state since Saturday. The heavy downpours have caused severe waterlogging in Jaipur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, and Dausa, leading district administrations to close schools in several affected areas, including Jaipur, Dausa, and Bharatpur.
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rain in some districts within the next 24 hours, further heightening concerns.
Among the casualties, five youths drowned in Jaipur’s Kanota Dam, and despite a search operation, their bodies had not been recovered by late Sunday night. Additionally, seven boys drowned in the Banganga River near Srinagar village in Bharatpur district.
Other fatalities occurred in various incidents across the state, including drownings in rivers, ponds, and a waterfall, as well as a tragic house collapse in Karauli. The heavy rains have also resulted in the death of two youths in Jaipur rural and a man in Banswara.
In response to the disaster, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma held an emergency meeting in Jaipur on Sunday to review the situation and coordinate disaster management efforts. He urged the public to exercise caution, stay away from water bodies, and adhere to safety warnings issued by authorities.
“I pray to God for a safe and prosperous life for all the people of the state,” the Chief Minister expressed in a social media post, emphasizing the need for vigilance during this critical time.
