Delhi’s air pollution levels have hit a five-year low, with the January-March 2025 period recording an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 231, according to data released by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). This marks a significant improvement compared to previous years 250 in 2024, 240 in 2023, 241 in 2022, and 278 in 2021.
March 2025, in particular, saw the cleanest air in half a decade, with an average AQI of 170, showing a six-point drop from March 2024. The city also recorded zero days with an AQI above 400, a major contrast to past years, which frequently saw hazardous pollution levels.
Experts credit the improved air quality to favorable weather patterns, stricter pollution control measures, and coordinated efforts by government agencies. Additionally, 36 days in early 2025 recorded AQI levels below 200, second only to 41 such days in 2024.
With Delhi showing steady progress in combating pollution, authorities continue to push for long-term solutions to ensure cleaner air in the years ahead.
