Sydney: A tragic helicopter crash occurred early Monday morning at the Hilton’s Double Tree Hotel in Cairns, a popular tourist destination in northern Australia. The crash claimed the life of the pilot and led to the evacuation of hundreds of hotel guests.
The incident took place around 2 a.m. local time when a twin-engine helicopter collided with the hotel’s roof, sparking a fire and causing significant damage. Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene, but the pilot was declared dead on-site. No injuries were reported among the hotel guests or staff.
Authorities are currently conducting forensic investigations to formally identify the deceased pilot. The crash also resulted in two rotor blades detaching from the helicopter, with one reportedly landing in the hotel’s pool.
Queensland police have confirmed that their forensic crash unit will collaborate with Australia’s transport safety regulator to investigate the cause of the accident and prepare a comprehensive report.
The Double Tree Hotel in Cairns, known for being a gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, remains closed as the investigation continues and the damage is assessed.
