As we bid farewell to the year 2022, the world has witnessed many new scientific and technological breakthroughs over the past 12 months. While the world struggled to recover from the pandemic, with another cloud of danger looming over our heads in the form of the Russia-Ukraine war, scientists and tech innovators continued to work hard to make our lives a little better than they were last year.
At the end of this year, we have selected five defining moments in science and technology in 2022. These events will not only change our perception and understanding of the world, but will also have a long-term impact on our lives for years to come.
5G in India
India witnessed the beginning of a new era of telecom services with the launch of 5G technology. On October 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially announced the rollout. 5G technology promises a very low latency of almost 5 milliseconds, while 4G latency ranges from 30ms to 100ms. Where 4G download speeds reach 1 Gbps, 5G aims to increase this tenfold to a maximum download speed of 10 Gbps.
With high speeds, excellent reliability and negligible latency, it has the potential to completely reshape the mobile connectivity ecosystem. 5G services are expected to have a pan-India presence in the next few years. Jio assures to do this by December 2023 and Bharti Airtel by March 2024.
