Tunisian says countries providing assistance in dealing with the impact of the sinking of the oil tanker

Some countries have asked to help Tunisia prevent environmental damage after a merchant ship carrying up to 1,000 tons of oil sank off the coast of Gabes, the Tunisian Ministry of Defense said on Sunday. A ship bound for Equatorial Guinea to Malta sank on Friday. and the Tunisian navy rescued all seven crew.

Tunisian navy responds

The ship was carrying 750 tons and 1,000 tons of fuel and sent a rough call from the Gabes to which the Tunisian navy responded, officials said. will work with countries that have expressed their desire to help. Local media reports say Italy is committed to helping and is expected to send a special naval vessel to deal with maritime disasters.

Environmental organizations claiming industrial plants

On Saturday, Tunisian authorities opened an investigation into the sinking of the ship, which the Ministry of Environment said was causing severe weather. He said restrictions would be put in place to prevent the spread of fuel and fencing off the ship, prior to the spill. The coastline of the town south of the Gabes has been heavily polluted for years, with environmental organizations claiming that industrial plants in the area were dumping waste into the sea.
