An earthquake struck Japan’s capital Tokyo and surrounding areas on Thursday, injuring several people and causing minor damage, officials and media said. The earthquake had a magnitude of 5.4, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency, and was centered in Chiba Prefecture, southeast of Tokyo. No tsunami warning was issued.
Four people were injured, including a man who was hit by a falling ceiling light, according to Japan’s Kyodo news agency, and some rail services were canceled or delayed.
Japan is one of the most earthquake-prone countries and the 2011 massive earthquake and subsequent tsunami killed thousands and caused the catastrophic meltdown of the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
