Terrorist Ambush Claims Lives of Four Indian Army Soldiers in Jammu & Kashmir

In a tragic incident in the Rajouri district of Jammu & Kashmir, a group of terrorists ambushed two Indian Army vehicles, resulting in the loss of at least four soldiers’ lives and injuries to three others. The attack unfolded at a blind curve known as Dhatyar Morh, situated between the Dera ki Gali (DKG) area and Bulfiaz. The targeted vehicles were en route to an active operation aimed at apprehending terrorists in the DKG area.

The ongoing operation, initiated the night before in the general area of DKG, faced a sudden escalation as terrorists targeted the army convoy. The army swiftly retaliated against the assailants, and the operation is still in progress. The personnel involved in the incident belonged to the esteemed 48 Rashtriya Rifles (48RR) unit.

Initially reported as three fatal casualties and three non-fatal injuries, the army later updated the toll to four deaths. The circumstances surrounding the additional fatality remain unclear at this time.

The region where the ambush occurred posed significant challenges to the military, characterized by hilly terrain and dense jungles. The terrorists carried out the ambush with indiscriminate fire, causing severe damage to the targeted army vehicles. The operation at DKG had been launched based on “hard intelligence,” indicating the presence of terrorists in the area.

Thursday’s attack is the sixth incident since October 2021 in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. In these attacks, a total of 29 army personnel, including officers, have lost their lives. The modus operandi of the ambush, with terrorists targeting military vehicles, bears similarities to previous attacks in the region.

As the operation continues and further details are being ascertained, the incident underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by the Indian Army in the volatile region of Jammu & Kashmir.
