Earthquake with magnitude of 6.7  in Talaud Islands, Indonesia

On Tuesday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 on the Richter scale struck the Talaud Islands, Indonesia, as reported by the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of loss of life or property in the region.

The NCS provided details on the earthquake, stating that its epicenter was located at Latitude: 4.75 and Longitude: 126.38, with a depth of 80 km. The earthquake occurred at 02:18:47 IST on January 9, 2024.

This seismic event follows a significant earthquake of 7.6 magnitude that jolted Japan on New Year’s Day, causing extensive damage and resulting in at least 100 fatalities, with over 200 people still reported missing. The earthquake in Japan affected the Hokuriku region, leaving 23,000 homes without power and marking the country’s deadliest quake in nearly eight years.
