Union Minister Jitendra Singh Hails Interim Budget’s Focus on Innovation and Startups

In a post-presentation media interaction, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh applauded the Interim Budget 2024-25 for its strong emphasis on fostering innovation and nurturing startups, aligning with the vision of achieving a developed India by 2047.

Highlighting key provisions, Dr Jitendra Singh underscored the allocation of a substantial corpus of Rs One Lakh Crore to catalyze private investment in emerging technologies, heralding what he described as a “golden era” for India’s tech-savvy youth. He emphasized the transformative potential of leveraging youth and technology in tandem to drive sustainable growth and innovation.

The Minister particularly lauded the proposal for a new scheme supporting Deep Tech Startups in the Defence sector, recognizing it as a strategic move towards bolstering self-reliance in Science & Technology, especially in critical domains like Defence.

Dr Jitendra Singh also commended the Department of Biotechnology for its significant contributions, including the development of indigenous vaccines such as “CERVAVAC” for cervical cancer prevention. He highlighted the Interim Budget’s provision for vaccination against cervical cancer for girls aged 9-14 years, a move aimed at disease prevention and public health enhancement.

Furthermore, the Minister hailed the proposed bio-manufacturing and bio-foundry scheme, emphasizing its potential to drive green growth and foster environmentally friendly alternatives in manufacturing.

Addressing the budget’s focus on promoting indigenous solar energy manufacturers and expanding the Electric Vehicle (EV) ecosystem, Dr Jitendra Singh emphasized their critical role in India’s journey towards achieving net zero emissions by 2070, as committed by Prime Minister Modi.

Looking ahead, Dr Jitendra Singh expressed optimism about the forthcoming full-fledged budget in July, expecting it to further amplify the impact of technology-led initiatives and propel India towards a five trillion dollar economy, in line with the vision of a developed and self-reliant India.
