Sri Lanka on Wednesday decided to cancel the Covid-19 vaccination certificate for travelers entering the island nation, officials said. Travelers to Sri Lanka would be exempted from mandatory Covid-19 restrictions with the lifting of the circular issued in 2021, Asela Gunawardena, Director General of Health Services said.
The mandatory requirement to present a proof of vaccination against Covid-19 to enter the country would thus no longer be needed with effect from Wednesday. The mandatory regulation for every person arriving in Sri Lanka from overseas to submit a negative Covid-19 test (PCR/Rapid Antigen Test) (RAT) before boarding or upon arrival has also been removed from Wednesday.
Any foreigner who tests positive for Covid-19 upon arrival in Sri Lanka will be required to self-isolate for 7 days at a private hospital/hotel/place of residence. Sri Lanka mandated a negative Covid-19 test and proof of vaccination when it opened its borders to foreign arrivals amid the 2021 Covid crisis.
