Since 1947, 1415 cases of blasphemy have been reported in Pakistan

Islamabad [Pakistan]: According to Pakistan’s think tank Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), a total of 1,415 cases of blasphemy has been reported in Pakistan since 1947. The study was reported by Karachi based media house DAWN.

According to the report, 18 women and 71 men were killed extra-judicially over blasphemy, between 1947 and 2021. However, CRSS believes the actual numbers to be higher as all cases don’t get reported.

“The actual number is believed to be higher because not all blasphemy cases get reported in the press,” the report said.

One group in society is calling out for a review of the blasphemy laws in order to avoid and deter their abuse.
