Talking about what he brings to the table, Tharoor said he has demonstrated a credible record of leadership at the highest levels of organisations, be it at the UN or as the founder-president of the All India Professional Congress. The former Union minister said he has outlined a set of priorities that he believes can help strengthen the Congress and take on the BJP machinery.
“Given that our current situation is widely deplored, it can be an advantage not to be burdened with the burden of spending too much time in the current party organization and to be able to approach it from a fresh perspective,” Tharoor said.
Asked about his views on a public debate between the party’s presidential candidates, Tharoor said he would be open to the idea. “There are no ideological differences between us; rather, it is about how we propose to go about achieving the goals we have already agreed upon,” he said.

Voting, if necessary, will take place on October 17. Counting of votes will begin on October 19 and the results will be announced on the same day. More than 9,000 Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) delegates will vote in the poll.
