New Delhi, July 17, 2024 — Lok Sabha MP and cricket enthusiast Shashi Tharoor has voiced his displeasure over the BCCI’s selection committee’s squad choices for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour. Tharoor’s criticism stems from the notable exclusions of Sanju Samson from the ODI squad and Abhishek Sharma from the T20I squad. Samson, who was included in the T20I squad, and Abhishek, who recently scored a century in the T20I series against Zimbabwe, were both overlooked for their respective formats in the Sri Lanka tour.
“Interesting squad selection for India’s tour of Sri Lanka later this month. @IamSanjuSamson, who hit a century in his last ODI, has not been picked for ODIs, while @IamAbhiSharma4, who hit a T20I century in the #INDvZIM series, has not been picked at all. Rarely has success in India colours mattered so little to the selectors! Good luck to the team anyway,” Tharoor tweeted.
Squad Leadership and Composition
For the T20I series against Sri Lanka, Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as the captain, with Shubman Gill serving as his deputy. In the ODI squad, Rohit Sharma will lead the team, with Virat Kohli also named in the squad. Shubman Gill will serve as the vice-captain for the ODI series as well.
