Scientific community discuss the ways to make research experiments more robust

Science executives from all walks of life consulted on ways to make research methods more robust and inclusive to promote new ideas that are relevant to India and new talent found opportunities, at a workshop on Research Processing Practices at Indian Funding Institutions.

“Research testing is a global challenge and experts around the world are looking for solutions. India should develop its own method of evaluating research projects, their results and the results of the country”said DST secretary Dr S Chandrasekhar. Emphasized the benefits of blind assessment — when a reviewer evaluates projects without knowing the person or institution who submitted the proposal. Dr Chandrasekhar also emphasized the need to organize workshops to raise awareness of reviewers.

The day-to-day workshop was organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and was attended by various science administrators who participated in activities to help assess the current state of research and to suggest developmental measures.

Senior Advisor, DST, Dr. Akhilesh Gupta emphasized on the study of responsible research that looks at India’s vast diversity, geographical location, gender, access to resources, institutional resources, etc. He also highlighted the need for a team of reviewers and awarding of reviewers to improve the quality of the review process.

The workshop and panel discussions were organized by the Policy Coordination & Program Management (PCPM) DST section and DST Policy Fellows to understand the current processes for evaluating internal and external research of Indian funding institutions, using their strengths and weaknesses, using collaborative tests and discussions with participants of the research ecosystem and found ways to improve it.

Scientific managers have argued that as research priorities and challenges change over time, current trends based on benefits or indicators and primarily based on journals based on journals need to be considered and as recommended in Frame 5 of India’s STI Policy requires further research. an assessment framework to advance the research agenda. They added that although responsible metropolitan movements around the world, such as the Leiden Manifesto, DORA Declaration, etc. were important to raising awareness of other comprehensive research methods, the Indian research practice was an hour requirement.

Officials from DST, Department of Bio-technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Indian Council for Medical Research, Council for Scientific & Industrial Research, Science & Engineering Research Board, Indian Council of Agricultural Research and other funding agencies scientists participate in panel discussion.
