Chinese smartphone manufacturer Realme has announced that it has shipped over 200 million phones since its establishment a little over five years ago. Owned by Chinese consumer hardware giant BBK Electronics, which also owns Oppo and Vivo, Realme achieved this milestone in the second quarter.
Data from Counterpoint Research indicates that Realme is the fifth-fastest smartphone maker to reach this milestone, with only Vivo, Huawei, Samsung, and Apple achieving it in a shorter time frame. Realme has gained a significant presence outside China, and the company’s Chief Marketing Officer, Xu Qi, expressed pride in being among the world’s top 10 smartphone brands for the past five years.
Counterpoint Research notes that in 2017, there were over 700 phone brands globally, but that number has decreased to about 250 as of September 2023. Realme’s success highlights its ability to thrive in a competitive market and compete with established players.
The company is now gearing up to enter the premium phone segment with the upcoming launch of the Realme GT 5 Pro. This new handset will feature Qualcomm’s latest high-end chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and Sony’s new Lytia camera sensor. Realme’s move into the premium smartphone category puts it in direct competition with other leading brands in the market.
