RapidX Train Fares Announced: Premium and Standard Coach Prices for 17km Priority Section in India

Passengers traveling on the RapidX trains in India will soon have the opportunity to experience a new mode of transportation as the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) announced the fare structure for the 17km priority section between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot in Ghaziabad.
Starting from October 21, these state-of-the-art six-coach RapidX trains will operate, with one premium class coach and five standard coaches. The fare structure for this route is now official, and passengers have been provided with options based on their choice of coach.
For a standard coach seat, passengers will pay between ₹20-50 for the 17km journey, depending on their starting and ending stations. Those who opt for the premium coach will have to pay ₹40-100 for the same distance.
Here’s a breakdown of some example fares: a passenger traveling from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot will pay ₹50 for a standard class seat and ₹100 for a premium class seat. Commuters between Ghaziabad and Sahibabad will spend ₹30 for a standard coach and ₹60 for premium class travel up to the Sahibabad RRTS station.
The cost per kilometer for traveling on the full 17km priority section is ₹2.94km in a standard coach and ₹5.88 in a premium coach, which varies depending on the distance between stations.
The NCRTC emphasized that these fares were determined following a comprehensive study by IIM-Ahmedabad, taking into account various factors such as cost, viability, comparisons with fares in other transportation systems globally, and cost realization. The RapidX system is distinct from traditional metro trains, and fare comparisons are not directly applicable.
The NCRTC has also introduced passenger-friendly features, including free travel for children below 90cm in height and various ticketing options, such as digital QR code-based tickets, the RAPIDX Connect phone app, national common mobility cards (NCMC), ticket vending machines (TVMs), and paper QR code-based journey tickets. Luggage up to 80cm x 50cm x 30cm and a maximum weight of 25kg per passenger will also be allowed.
The introduction of the RapidX trains offers an innovative and efficient mode of transportation for commuters in the region and is expected to provide a convenient and comfortable journey for those traveling within the 17km priority section.
