Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday left for his parliamentary constituency in Kerala’s Wayanad from his residence in Delhi, for the first time after being re-appointed as a Lok Sabha MP.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat on Monday restored Rahul Gandhi’s membership after the Supreme Court on August 4 stayed his conviction in the ‘Modi’ surname remark case.Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee working president VT Siddique said, “Rahul Gandhi will come to Wayanad on August 12. We are going to give him a warm welcome and preparations have already started. District Congress Committee meeting is being held tomorrow. Rahul Gandhi will attend it on August 12-13 Rahul Gandhi will be given a very warm welcome in the history of Wayanad”.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi has also reportedly been reassigned to 12 Tughlaq Lane bungalow.He received an official confirmation from a real estate agency to allot a bungalow to him as an MP in Delh.
The Congress leader was disqualified as a member of the lower house on March 24 as a result of his conviction and two-year jail term for his “Surname Modi” remarks.
The eviction of the bungalow came a day after the Surat Sessions Court on April 20 passed an order on his interim stay plea on the basis of his conviction in a defamation case. Mr Gandhi has since moved to former Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s residence at 10 Janpath Road.
