Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI), Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India has signed a Power Sale Agreement (PSA) with GRIDCO Odisha, Government of Odisha under which GRIDCO Odisha will purchase 600 MW of wind power from SECI under Tranche – XIII Scheme of ISTS (Inter State Transmission System) interconnected wind energy projects.
Under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s ISTS scheme, electricity generated from a renewable energy rich state could be transferred to renewable energy deficient states. The agreement between SECI and GRIDCO was signed in Bhubaneshwar today, June 9, 2023, in the presence of Additional Principal Secretary, Department of Power, Government of Odisha, N. B. Dhal.
The Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission has already approved in principle the purchase of 600 MW of wind power by GRIDCO. Commissioning of electricity is planned within 24 months from the date of signing the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the project developers.
A total capacity of 600 MW is likely to be installed by developers based in Gujarat, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
SECI is a Central Public Sector Undertaking Miniratna Category I under the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, established in 2011. It is the primary implementing agency of the Ministry for renewable energy schemes and projects aimed at fulfilling India’s international obligations.
To date, SECI has awarded over 58 GW of renewable energy project capacity. SECI is also active in setting up projects through its own investments and for other public sector entities as a Project Management Consultant (PMC). SECI has an ICRA credit rating of AAA.
GRIDCO Limited is currently engaged in bulk purchase and bulk sale of power to four distribution companies in the state of Odisha and trading of surplus power through traders to promote power exchange with neighboring states in the country.
