Shoei Kisen Kaisha, the owner of the Fremantle Highway trucking company that caught fire off the coast of the Netherlands last week, said it would investigate the cause in cooperation with relevant parties.
Panama On July 26, a Panamanian-registered ship carrying nearly 3,000 vehicles from Germany to Egypt exploded, killing one crew member and injuring seven people who jumped into the sea to escape the fire.
Officials said a tanker arrived at the northern Dutch port of Emshaven on Thursday for the rescue.
A spokesman for the Dutch Security Council said that an investigation by the Panama Maritime Organization had been launched and that the Netherlands was expected to assist in the investigation.
Shoei said all 22 people hospitalized for the incident, including the captain, were released Thursday.
K Line, the Japanese shipping company that operates the Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, or Fremantle Highway, also said Friday that the ship’s owner would cooperate with authorities to investigate the scale and cause of the accident.
K Line previously said it had 3,783 vehicles in its fleet, including 498 battery electric vehicles.
“The fire started in the battery of the electric car,” according to a recording released by the Dutch broadcaster RTL. However, the authorities have not confirmed whether this is the case.
