In a tragic incident, at least nine people were burnt alive and 15 others injured when a moving bus caught fire near Tauru in Haryana’s Nuh district early Saturday morning, according to police reports.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway. The bus, carrying approximately 60 passengers, was transporting residents of Punjab’s Hoshiarpur and Ludhiana who were returning from the pilgrimage towns of Mathura and Vrindavan. All the passengers were related, police said.
Inspector Jitendra Kumar, Station House Officer of Sadar Tauru, confirmed the fatalities and injuries. “Nine people — six women and three men — were killed in the accident. Fifteen people were injured and have been hospitalised. All the injured are stable,” he stated.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and a thorough investigation is underway, Inspector Kumar added.
According to local residents, the fire was noticed by passersby who then chased the bus on motorcycles to alert the driver. They also informed the police and fire department immediately.
This tragic incident highlights the need for stringent safety measures and regular maintenance checks on public transportation to prevent such accidents.
