Mukhtar Ansari A Gangster-Politician Dies at 63, Leaving a Controversial Legacy

Mukhtar Ansari, a prominent figure in Uttar Pradesh’s nexus of crime and politics, breathed his last at the age of 63 after succumbing to cardiac arrest in a hospital in Banda.

Born into an influential family in 1963, Mukhtar Ansari entry into the criminal underworld began at a young age, eventually leading him to establish his gang’s dominance in the government contract mafia of Uttar Pradesh.

Throughout his life, Mukhtar Ansari faced a staggering number of criminal cases, ranging from murder to extortion, amassing a total of 65 cases against him. Despite his criminal notoriety, Ansari managed to transition into politics seamlessly, capitalizing on his influence and connections.

In 1996, Ansari made his foray into politics by winning a seat in the Uttar Pradesh assembly on a Bahujan Samaj Party ticket from Mau. Over the years, he continued his political career, being elected as an MLA five times, representing different political parties and even forming his own party, Qaumi Ekta Dal (QED).

Despite his success in the political arena, Mukhtar Ansari criminal past continued to haunt him. Since 2005, he spent much of his time behind bars, with 28 criminal cases registered against him, including charges under the Gangster Act and murder.

Ansari’s legal troubles intensified in recent years, with several convictions and sentences handed down by various courts. His criminal activities, including threats, murders, and extortion, led to multiple convictions, culminating in life imprisonment and hefty fines.

However, Mukhtar Ansari notoriety extended beyond the confines of Uttar Pradesh, with legal battles spilling into other states. His transfer from Ropar jail in Punjab to Uttar Pradesh became a contentious issue, requiring intervention from the Supreme Court to ensure compliance with the law.

Despite facing immense legal scrutiny, Ansari’s criminal empire continued to operate, with his gang facing significant crackdowns by law enforcement agencies. Seizures of illegal properties and the disruption of illicit business ventures worth millions underscored the extent of his criminal enterprise.

With Mukhtar Ansari demise, Uttar Pradesh bids farewell to a figure whose life epitomized the complex intersection of crime and politics. His legacy leaves behind a contentious narrative, reflecting the challenges of confronting organized crime within the realm of democratic governance.
