Health Focus: Ministry of Ayush has signed an MoU with the Ministry of Railways to introduce Ayush systems in five railway hospitals

The Ministry of Ayush has signed an MoU with the Ministry of Railways to introduce Ayush systems in five railway hospitals, leading to the establishment of Ayush units in 5 railway zonal hospitals in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Guwahati. The Ministry of Ayush collaborated with the Ministry of Defense which led to the establishment of Ayurvedic OPDs in 12 AFMS (Armed Force Medical Services) and 37 Cantonment Board hospitals. These facilities are successfully operational with effect from the 1st week of June 2022. The Ministry of Ayush had a central sector scheme namely Champion Services Sector Scheme for health value travel.

This scheme had three components viz :

(1) Establishment of Ayush Super Specialty Hospitals / Day Care Centres,

(2) Skill Development in Ayush Sector and

 (3) Establishment of Ayush Grid.

The first component of the Champion Services Sector Scheme was the establishment of Super Specialty Hospitals / Ayush Day Care Centers in which financial assistance in the form of interest subsidy is provided to private investors for setting up Super Specialty Hospitals / Day Care Centers of schemes recognized under the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Act (NCISM) 2020 or National Commission for Homeopathy (NCH) Act 2020 on Pan India basis. The scheme period ended on 31 March 2022. Under this component, the Ministry of Ayush received 81 proposals for setting up Ayush hospitals/centres across the country. Out of 81 proposals, 03 proposals were approved.

The Ministry of Ayush has developed a central sector scheme i.e. Ayurswasthya Yojana in which there is a component called Up-gradation of facility to Center of Excellence (CoE). The main objective of the CoE component is to support the establishment and upgrading of functions and facilities of reputed institutions to strengthen Ayush professionals in education, technology, research and innovation and other areas necessary for the promotion of Ayush at the national and international levels.

Institute of Ayurvedic Teaching and Research (ITRA)-Jamnagar was granted the status of Institute of National Importance in October 2020 under the ITRA Act 2020 by amalgamating three different institutes namely Institute of Post Graduate Teaching and Research in Ayurveda, Jamnagar, Shree Gulabkunverba Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Jamnagar and Indian Institute of Ayurvedic Pharmaceuticals of Sciences, Jamnagar. The ITRA Act, 2020 came into force among others. September 22, 2020. This information was given by Ajush Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal in a written reply in the Loksabha today.
